Mission: With a base in music education, Girls Rock! DC aims to create a supportive, inclusive and creative space for girls to develop their self-confidence, build community, stand up and rock out!

Following in the footsteps of girls rock camps across the United States, Girls Rock! DC was founded in October 2007 by an all volunteer collective of DC Metro Area musicians, teachers, artists and community organizers. In August 2008, over 80 volunteers built upon their diverse musical backgrounds, connections to local youth and approaches to grassroots organizing to create a week-long day camp for Washington DC area girls ages 8-18.

Guitars not Guns’ (GnG’s) mission is to provide opportunity, inspiration and empowerment to at-risk and underprivileged youth.
 
GnG helps instill in them the confidence and character necessary for them to grow into productive members of society and responsible adults. GnG’s method is to engage the youth’s creative potential with a structured music program, taught by caring adults in a safe environment, and then couple that with our mentoring in music-related careers. We provide them free guitar lessons with the belief that the art of music connects the child to higher life goals and ambition.
 
GnG is a community based organization that provides at risk and underprivileged youth a positive alternative to the self-destructive behaviors of substance abuse, crime, truancy and gangs.
